Opponents of the coal terminal showed up in force at the Gateway Pacific Terminal scoping meeting at the Ferndale  Events Center on Thursday, November 29, but their numbers were matched by those in favor of the new coal port at Cherry Point,  making it a fairly even draw.

Paul Westby (r) of Ferndale supports the coal export for creation of jobs in the county.  “My son had to go to eastern
Washington to get a job,” Westby said. “I’ve seen our jobs disappear.”
