Whatcom County law enforcement arrested three Birch Bay residents Tuesday after serving a search warrant on a suspected drug house on East Road.

Officers working with the Northwest Regional Drug Task Force (NWRDTF) and the sheriff’s office Special Response Team found 1.5 ounces of methamphetamine, a small amount of marijuana, $700 cash, two stolen vehicles and an additional amount of suspected stolen property.

William R. Berry, 47, and Charity Theophile, 31, were arrested on investigation of charges related to the possession and delivery of the drugs, and Michael P. Watts, 55, was arrested on a warrant for failing to appear on a criminal trespass charge.

In the course of the investigation leading up to the arrests, agents of the NWRDTF had purchased methamphetamine multiple times at the East Road property, and developed probable cause to arrest Berry and Theophile. Berry had been released from the Whatcom County Jail on bail after an earlier arrest on drug-related charges.

The NWRDTF is a joint effort of the Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office, the Washington State Patrol and the Department of Homeland Security.
