Blaine police report that on February 8 at 5:30 p.m., a girl was approached and frightened by a man she did not know.

The teenager was walking alone on H Street between Harrison Avenue and 4th Street, near the post office when a vehicle headed east on H Street stopped as it approached her. An adult man rolled down the window and asked if he could give her a ride home.

The girl responded by immediately running to the Blaine Public Library which was a block away. The driver did not follow her.

She contacted and was picked up by her parents, who then notified the police.

Blaine police, assisted by other area law enforcement agencies, searched the area but did not locate the vehicle or its driver.

The man is reported to be driving an older light brown “family van” with tinted windows. When the van’s headlights are on, they appear to be yellowish or faded. He has been described as a 30 to 40 years old, very thin, bald (or balding) with patchy facial hair and dark circles under his eyes. The witness said the the man appeared pale and gave the impression of “not having eaten for awhile,” and that his voice was deep and scratchy without accent. The man was wearing a gray short-sleeve T-shirt.

Members of the public with information regarding this incident are asked to call the Blaine police department at 360/332-6769 or 800/556-1345.
