Conditions were finally spring-like as BHS athletes got to compete in some warmth and sunshine for a change. Here are some sports highlights from the past week:

Wallen wins Greyhound invitational golf tournament
At the Black Rock Creek Golf Course in Sunnyside March 25, Blaine Senior Ryan Wallen outshot 104 players from 22 teams to win the 9th annual Greyhound Boys Invitational golf tournament. Wallen fired an even par 72, which tied him with Selah High School senior Derek Woods and earned a one-on-one playoff. Wallen birdied the first playoff hole to take the victory. Andrew Raab from East Valley High School finished third at one over par 73 and Ephrates High School's Aaron Whalen was fourth at two over par 74.
Mario Gobbato Signs with Montana State University-Northern
Blaine's star running back, who in his high school career achieved 790 carries for 6118 yards and 78 touchdowns, breaking several records along the way, has signed with Montana State University-Northern. The Lights compete in the Frontier conference. MSUN is located in Havre, Montana.
Baseball: Defeated Mount Baker 10-7 away March 21. Lost 4-0 to Meridian away March 22. Defeated Friday Harbor 3-2 at home March 25.
Record: 4 wins, 2 losses.
Next game: Thursday, March 28 at home v. Burlington-Edison
Softball: Defeated Lynden Christian 11-7 away March 19. Lost to Burlington-Edison 5-3 away March 22. Defeated Lynden Christian 5-2 at home March 26.
Record: 4 wins, 1 loss.
Next game: Thursday, March 28 at home v. Nooksack Valley. Then: Alumni Game! Wednesday, April 3 at Pipeline field.
