Letters to the Editor
The Editor:
If a picture is worth a thousand words, your photos in The
Northern Light of the trees in our benefit were worth $1,000.
They were wonderful. I do not believe I exaggerate when
I say that their publication and timing were responsible
for at least 50 percent of our donations this year.
We
took in $1,815 for charity, which surpasses last years
donations, when the economic climate was more comfortable.
To beat last years mark in these worriesome times
is nothing short of a miracle.
Our
many thanks to Jack Kitner, for his patience and willingness
to take the photographs at the very best time and to The
Northern Light for the coverage.

The
Editor:
The Points of Light benefit is over for another year, and
once again, the response was phenomenal. The participating
businesses, organizations and individuals raised over $1,800
for charity. A very special thank you to all you folks who
donated to the charities. We know times are tough in the
north end of the county, but once again, the good hearts
of Blaine and Birch Bay shine through.
Although
it was a very close race for favorite tree pick, Lisa Barnes
and Angie Dixon won the title this year with their tree
dedicated to Vicky Taylor, a cancer victim.
The
participants this year were: Semiahmoo Ladies Club, Stafholt
Ladies Auxiliary, Olasons Corkscrew Willow, Blaine
Bouquets, Kiwanis, Blaine Boys & Girls Club, Blaine-Lutheran
Preschool, Blaine United Church of Christ Preschoolers,
J&S Pots & Things, Crystal Waisanen, La Bonne Maison,
Drayton Harbor Mini Storage, Angie Dixon, Lisa Barnes, Northsound
Youth Symphony & Symphonia, Priscilla Wallis, Nancy
Mills, Pacific Building Center, Blaine police department,
N.W. Podiatric & Laboratory, Inc., and Horizon Bank.
Many
of these trees are on display at some of the local businesses.
Donations are still accepted.
Although
we strive to keep the benefit as cost free as we can for
the participants, we know they have spent money from their
own pockets and a great deal of personal time in order to
participate.
We
are very thankful for their generosity and are so proud
to be part of the community they live in.

The
Editor:
I want to thank you and your staff for sharing The Northern
Light on the internet. Having lived in Blaine for 23 years
before moving away in 1984, I had truly missed reading about
the local Blaine area.
Thanks
to your publication, I am able to keep up-to-date on the
events in Blaine.
