Would you like to help create a world with less cancer and more birthdays?

Relay For Life of North Whatcom County is honored to be celebrating our 10th anniversary this June, and we would like to encourage you to be a part of our history as we celebrate a “Decade to Remember.” We are on track to raise more than 1.5 million dollars over the course of our 10 years, but we need your help to achieve that amazing statistic.

We are hoping to recruit more than 50 teams this year, composed of community businesses, schools, churches, families and friends. Our goal is to register over 600 individuals and welcome well over 1,000 more to our event. Included in that number are, of course, the hundreds of cancer survivors that we will honor from around the county.

Relay For Life began in 1985, but the fight is far from over. One out of two men and one out of three women will receive a cancer diagnosis in their lifetime. Fortunately, there is great hope for the future. We have set an ambitious goal of raising more than $150,000 for our celebratory year and it starts with the help of individuals like you.

Through its signature global movement known as Relay For Life, the American Cancer Society has raised funds and awareness in the battle against cancer. Relay is an incredibly powerful overnight experience that takes place on a track where teams throughout the community unite and celebrate those who have won their cancer battle, remember those who have been lost and fight back against the disease.

Whether you are part of a team or an individual coming out for the first time, everyone in the community is welcome to join us. The 2014 kick-off event will be held at 7 p.m. on January 21 at the Mt. Baker Rotary Building in Lynden. This is a family-friendly event, full of great food, fun and inspiration and better yet, it’s free to all who come.

Please consider supporting Relay For Life of North Whatcom County and its many volunteers by sponsoring or donating to our efforts. Our event will be held on Friday and Saturday, June 20 and 21 at the Northwest Washington Fairgrounds in Lynden. Your community support helps so many who have battled and are currently battling this disease and your help will be greatly appreciated.

There are many ways in which you can show your support. You can show suport through business sponsorship, monetary donations to one of our many fundraising events or directly to an individual participant or team.

Form your own team and see what a difference you can make! We look forward to discussing all those options with you and are always ready to answer all your questions. It’s a lot easier than you think to be a part of Relay For Life. As with anything new, the first step is the hardest.

Thank you to our entire community for your unconditional support to our mission and helping us to empower survivors and spread the message of hope. We promise that this special event will touch your heart and give hope to so many that is affected by cancer. Visit relayforlifeofnorthwhatcom.org to learn more.
