Alleged child abuser arrested
Blaine
police investigating allegations of child molestation gathered
enough evidence last week to arrest 25-year-old Blaine resident
Byron Weatherly, who will be arraigned this Friday on two
counts of first-degree child molestation.
Three children, ages three, eight and ten, were left in
Weatherlys care while their mother and her boyfriend
moved. A friend of Weatherlys arrived unexpectedly
to find him and all three children naked in the apartment.
Following Weatherlys arrest, two other families contacted
Blaine police alleging that their children were also abused.
The incidents did not occur in Blaine and were referred
to the proper jurisdiction.
Blaine police chief Bill Elfo said police believe Weatherly
has lived in several communities in the county in the past
two years, where he worked with youth ministries at several
churches and befriended single mothers with young boys.
Elfo recommended parents whose children have had contact
with Weatherly talk about those occasions and contact police
if they believe inappropriate conduct took place..
