Pop the bubbly!
To
celebrate the National holidays of Canada and the United
States of America, the White Rock-South Surrey and the Blaine
Community Chambers of Commerce will hold their 3RD annual
champagne toast across the Canada-United States border at
the Peace Arch July 1, 2002 at 1:00 p.m.
This years event follows a New Years toast in 2000,
and July 1 toasts in 2000 and 2001. Local, provincial, state
and federal dignitaries from both sides of the border are
invited to raise their glass in celebration of cross-border
friendship, cooperation and shared goals. They will be escorted
to the Peace Arch by the Peninsula Pipers of the Royal Canadian
Legion Crescent Branch 240 and the Blaine American Legion
color guard #86
Citizens of both countries are invited watch the celebration,
though there isnt champagne for audience members,
and are encouraged to bring a picnic lunch to enjoy in the
park. A giant birthday cake decorated with the Canadian
and American flags will be served to everyone attending
by the White Rock Youth Ambassadors.
Champagne for the toast is courtesy of Resort Semiahmoo,
invitations are sponsored by Parfour Printing and Signs
of White Rock and the cake by the Celebrate Canada Committee
of Canadian Heritage. Free Jelly Belly jelly
beans will be given away courtesy of the Herman Goelitz
