City is takin it to the streets
The city of Blaine will hold a series of open house meetings
over the next three Thursdays to explain why city council
is asking voters to approve a property tax increase that
would pay for street maintenance.
Council approved an ordinance at the end of July to put
the measure on the ballot in the September 17 primary election.
The ballot issue calls for a 50-cent increase in the levy
per thousand dollars of assessed valuation. The levy would
sunset in 2006, when a new street construction levy will
be considered to include maintenance.
Meetings will be at the Blaine community center August 15
and 29 and at the Semiahmoo fire station August 22. Meetings
start at 7 p.m.
