Parties and trees for presents
Trees are sprouting around Blaine with opportunities to
give hanging from their boughs. Spreading from Stafholt
Good Samaritan Center, the trees will be popping up in businesses
all over town. By taking a tag off the trees, community
members commit themselves to bringing it back with a present
for a local child who might otherwise have none.
The Giving Tree program matches families with sponsors who
buy two items of clothing and one toy for each child in
the family. If there arent enough sponsors for the
families who sign up, donations like the HOG toy drive fill
the gap, or individual gift donations come through the trees.
Applications for families are already coming in and
anyone who can sponsor them, please call Stafholt,
said Giving Tree organizer Lori Hart.
A benefit dance to raise money for gifts is scheduled for
November 15 at the Dakota Creek Roadhouse. The evening will
start with a salmon dinner and Crystal Tricycle will perform.
Children are welcome until 9 p.m. and will have their own
menus. Tickets are $15 per person, $25 per couple or $5
for a child. To attend the dance but not dinner, bring $5
and an unwrapped new gift suitable for a child. Advance
tickets are available at Stafholt, Pacific Building Center,
the Blaine Family Service Center, and the visitors
information center.
