Birch Bay satellite station to open soon
The Birch Bay fire house has provided a small room for the county sheriffs department to use as a new satellite station.
We were finding that patrolmen were spending upwards of 90 minutes to two hours checking in and out at the courthouse annex in Bellingham, county sheriff Bill Elfo said. Now they can do briefings electronically.
Elfo said the new station will allow easier access for interviews outside of the area, alleviate redundant data entry and patrolmen will be able to stay closer to their neighborhoods.
We expect the station to be done within the next 35 to 40 days, Elfo said. And there will be similar offices in the region.
I think this will be easier for them and I think they would agree, Elfo said, noting patrolmen will now have more time to focus on other parts of the job.
As fas ar costs, Elfo could not give exact numbers, but said they were minimal, especially computer-wise.
