Birch Bay fight leads to one arrest
A woman was injured over the weekend in Birch Bay, during an apparent confrontation concerning a recent eviction. According to Sergeant Larry Flynn, of the Whatcom County sheriffs office, an altercation started in the 5100 block of Seaview Drive, between a man and a woman who used to live in the home.
The woman, who has not been named, was recently evicted from the house, and had returned with a man to gather her belongings. She then allegedly proceeded to break several windows of a parked travel trailer.
The male resident of the home, Jason Stone, fired at least one shot, possibly two, with a .22-caliber rifle. The bullet(s) hit the gravel driveway, causing fragments to fly and hit the woman in the back.
The woman then left in her vehicle with her male friend, and called 911. Stone also called police.
Stone, 30, was arrested on suspicion of second-degree assault. He was also charged with two counts of being a felon in possession of a firearm, after deputies found a second rifle in the home. The woman was treated by St. Josephs Hospital.
The case has been forwarded to the prosecutors office for review. The woman could be charged with malicious mischief for damaging the trailer.
