New attorney at Law Office of Roger Ellingson
Uphar Dhaliwal joined the Law Office of Roger Ellingson last week. Dhaliwal, who also speaks Hindi and Punjabi, said she is excited to be one of the few Indian lawyers in Whatcom County. Her language skills combined with her experience of growing up in North America, she said, has given her experience and an understanding of both communities and cultures. Originally from Abbotsford, B.C., Dhaliwal earned her undergraduate degree from the University of Victoria, and her law degree from Seattle University.
�I�m looking forward to becoming an active member in the community,� Dhaliwal said, adding she hopes to help foster an appreciation and evaluation of other people�s cultures. �I welcome people to come in and meet me.�

Bruland named new Horizon Bank supervisor
Dustin Bruland has been promoted to the new office supervisor of Horizon Bank in Blaine. Bruland, who has worked at Horizon for almost five years, described the new position as similar to being an assistant manager.
�It�s helping and assisting people here and making sure we�re meeting our goals,� Bruland said. �It will be a good learning experience for me.� He also said he was glad the promotion allows him to stay in Blaine where his parents and grandparents own businesses.
