Whatcom County Red Cross names new health & safety director
Tom Burkland has joined the Whatcom County American Red Cross as director, health & safety services.
In his new position, Burkland will be responsible for scheduling Red Cross classes and managing instructors, working with businesses to fulfill employee training requirements, assisting people interested in purchasing automated external defibrillators (AEDs), and marketing Red Cross first aid supplies and disaster preparedness kits to businesses and the public.
Burkland has more than 20 years experience working for Whatcom County businesses and nonprofit organizations.
The Whatcom County American Red Cross provides relief to victims of disasters and helps people prevent, prepare for, and respond to emergencies. Training future lifeguards and babysitters; providing financial assistance to victims of fires, flooding, and other disasters; providing first aid at community events and festivals, communicating emergency messages to members of the Armed Forces; and educating families and groups on emergency preparedness are only a few of the vital services that your Red Cross provides every day.�Red Cross services are mandated by Congress but not federally funded.�All disaster services are free to people in immediate emergency need and made possible by generous support from community members.
