Community officials to attend cross-border economic forum

Members of the Blaine community will join Whatcom County officials and Canadian representatives at White Rocks Economic Development Committees (EDC) second economic forum.

The forum will be held on Friday, September 12 and runs from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. with a noon luncheon break featuring a keynote speaker who will be announced soon.

The first economic forum was held in April at Semiahmoo Resort in Blaine with 30 chamber, city and business representatives of Whatcom County and Canada in attendance. The first forum was planned by the city of White Rock economic development committees sub committee on tourism and cross border issues.

White Rock mayor Judy Forster and the EDC chair Ginny Hasselfield will co-host the second forum. The day-long meeting will explore ideas and develop economic development strategies, and attendance is expected to double from the first forum.

Representatives from Blaine, Birch Bay and other areas of Whatcom County, as well as Abbotsford, Surrey, Delta, Richmond, and White Rock have been invited to attend.
