Education excellence thriving
By Dr. Mary Lynne Derrington, Superintendent
Excellence in education continued to thrive at Blaine school district during the past 12 months. Despite hardships caused by reduced legislative funding, the staff and community worked together to provide whats best for the kids.
Our students were recognized at the local, state and even national levels for their achievements in math, music, technology and art. We celebrated many athletic achievements and enjoyed watching the increased confidence of our young drama and music participants. Students test scores continued to demonstrate that our support of small class size and an emphasis on the basics are the appropriate uses of our resources.
On the personal side, midway through 2003, I officially became a Borderite. My husband, Don, and I are very excited about joining this wonderful community. At the same time Blaine was wishing Dr. Gordon Dolman much happiness in his retirement, you were making me feel very welcome as your new superintendent. You can feel very proud of the friendly, involved people of Blaine.
Your support of the school district was obvious to me with the capital construction projects. It was a pleasure to conduct tours of the campus and learn about all of the changes your support has made possible. We have a wonderful learning environment here!
As the new superintendent, I continue to be amazed and pleased at the community use of our facilities and the support you show at fine arts, athletic and scholastic activities. I enjoyed working with the many volunteers at the Blaine Halloween Carnival and am told that my first math championships will be a memorial event also.
In the past you have demonstrated your continuous support for ongoing employment of quality staff members, small class sizes and after school programs such as athletics and study opportunities. On February 3, your positive vote will continue the maintenance and operations levy that ensures these and many other programs will be available over the next four years.
Please feel free to stop at the district office and say hello. Ill enjoy meeting you.
