Arts and Jazz event scheduled for next week
The annual Arts and Jazz event is scheduled for Saturday, February 7 at the Blaine Performing Arts Center (PAC).
This years event features a poster created by Blaine sophomore Emily Hendricks-Hockey, a student who is undergoing her second year of instruction with Brian Smith. The art piece which was selected for use as the poster for Arts and Jazz was a piece Hendricks-Hockey did for art class as an assignment on Power and Authority.
According to Leslee Smith of the Fine Arts Association, Hendricks-Hockey researched the subject utilizing books and pictures before beginning her assignment. The title of her piece is Pricked by Heaven.
Hendricks-Hockey says she loves doing artwork and it is a passion for her. Her inspirations are often political and religious subjects and she states, There is a message behind what I create, not oh its just pretty.
The event will also feature music from several Blaine students, including Kit Schumann, Victoria King, Amanda Johansen and Mary Marshall. King, Johansen, and Marshall will perform in the all-state gala concert which will be held February 16 in the Sundome in Yakima.
Arts and Jazz will run from 7-11 p.m. at the PAC. Admission is $5 per person. For more information call 332-6045.
