Another school year has passed, and the kids are celebrating summer! The Blaine Library is joining in the celebration by offering this year’s Summer Reading Club, “Discover New Trails at Your Library.” Kids decide the number of books they’ll read or listen to over the summer. Prizes are given for every five books read, with a final prize and certificate given for those kids who reach their goal by the end of the summer.
New this year is the “Reading Wheel,” that can be spun to win a cool bookmark, or to give help in finding a different kind of book to read. Even the pre-readers can take part by listening to books read to them by a parent, older sibling, or by tape.
Kids guessing the correct answer to “Who’s This Trailblazer” game, earn an entry into a weekly drawing for passes to the Birch Bay Waterslides or Miniature World. Teens “Discover New Trails,” by setting their own reading goals and writing short reviews of the books they’ve read or listened to on tape. Each review is an actual entry into the teen weekly drawing for waterslide or go-cart/golf passes.
An additional highlight of the program - kids or teens signing up for Summer Reading Club before July 4, can have up to $5 in overdue fines forgiven on their accounts.

Going on a car trip this summer? Check out a book on tape or CD from our wide selection of children’s and adult authors. Plug in “Hank the Cowdog”, and you’ll not hear, “Are we there yet?” from the backseat. You may have to drive around the block a few times to finish a Clive Cussler thriller or a Zane Grey western.
Whatever your plans may be for the summer, your Blaine Library is here to help make it even more enjoyable!
