Volunteers give kids the business
Local community leaders provided educational Junior Achievement programs through a one-day event at Blaine elementary school on November 15. Referred to as JA Day, the event allowed volunteers to present the entire JA course to students in one day. Volunteers from Blaine and throughout Whatcom County committed to teaching almost every class at the school for this one day event.
“A JA Day allows volunteers to accelerate the teaching format of the JA curriculum,” said Leah Macaleer, regional director of Junior Achievement for Whatcom, Skagit, and Island counties. “The JA in a Day approach allows volunteers to educate students about business, economics, and the free enterprise system in an effective, but condensed time frame.”
According to principal Deb Cummings, the program was so successful they are already planning for next year.
