Penny drive to help tsunami victims

Students and staff at Blaine elementary school are collecting pennies (yes, and bigger coins) in a relief effort for the tsunami victims. Teacher Gale Greer felt strongly that the elementary school children should be offered a concrete way to assist the children and families suffering from this disaster and suggested the project to the staff. She worked with students Jose Contreras, Marc Evans, Darcy Glenman, Dylan Sadnick, Patrick Shields and Tyson Wagelie to launch this building-wide project. Lots of students joined in and helped prepare the huge collection jar for schools, posters to invite participation and cans for several community locations.

The Penny Drive will continue through Tuesday, January 18. The money gathered will be given to the American Red Cross. All of the money donated will go directly to the tsunami relief. If anyone in the community would like to give, they can contact the local Red Cross directly at 733-3290.
