Airport to hold appreciation day

By Tiana Sanders

Blaine airport is holding a community appreciation day and would like you to come out on Saturday, June 11 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Local businesses and civic groups are joining together to offer a free day of fun for families throughout the area, as well as an opportunity to get to know your neighbors. Organizers promise there will be lots to do and see for kids as well as adults. The fire department will be there along with fire trucks, ambulances and a water truck so kids can shoot windows out of a building.

he Mt. Baker Amateur Radio Club is bringing their emergency communications van for hands-on demonstrations. Kids can experience the thrill of flight first-hand by signing up for a free Young Eagles’ flight with a certified EAA pilot and get their name put into the world’s largest log book. For those who are a little queasy at the thought of taking to the air, they can test out their wings on an FAA flight simulator. Adults and kids can buy a ticket to ride in an antique Travelair bi-plane.

There will be booths, planes to see, bouncy castle for kids and delicious food. You can also enter to win great prizes.
