A busy fall planned for the Blaine senior center

By JoAn Newby

The traditionally lazy days of summer find our own great Blaine Senior Center going strong. Another page is turning, another September is coming, with many new and renewed activities. Classes and activities dormant during the summer will be reappearing.

Along with the traditional season of change comes the winds of change sweeping through the center. There is a certain air of sadness because of the resignation of manager, Judy Van Brocklin. Judy is accepting a manager position with the Bellingham Senior Center.

Judy will be greatly missed since she has been a wonderful part of many lives. Through her leadership the center has flourished and acquired many new members, activities, and facilities. Blaine’s loss is Bellingham’s tremendous gain. We are happy for her and wish her and her new position in Bellingham the very best.

The Blaine Senior Center has a great staff, a progressive board, and a wonderful group of people with many loyal volunteers who will be able to keep the center alive and well. So fasten you seat belts and get ready for the new season.

First of all, start getting ready for the big flea market, the big happening of October 1. You can rent a table and sell stuff you have been accumulating and have a lot of fun doing it. Don’t miss it, you will be sure to find more than a few treasures there.

You might try to make the belly dance demo September 7. Learn more about this fun exercise.

Drop in for the strength-building class which begins September 12. This is an excellent chance to get in shape once and for all under expert supervision on the outstanding Blaine Senior Center equipment.

The Center has a must-see art gallery too, and stress-free art classes which begin again September 13. Classes are always relaxing and enjoyable, there is plenty of fun and fellowship.

Relax a while and enjoy the toe-tapping music by James and Jim on September 15.

There is also a fibromyalgia support meeting September 21 with chiropractor Dr. Sandy Schable.

Remember to get acquainted with Blaine fire department and also get your blood pressure checked every Thursday morning. Have a great September!
