Artists sought for 2006 contest

By Christina Alexander

Artists are invited to submit outdoor sculptures to be featured at the Ninth Annual Peace Arch Park International Sculpture Exhibition from May 1 through October 1 2006.

Located on the international boundary between the United States and Canada over 500,000 people visit the Peace Arch International Park each year. A panel of international art experts, association members and park management jury the exhibition. The criteria for selecting the exhibition includes artistic impression, quality, durability, aesthetic appeal, and park and community appropriateness. All materials must be completely weatherproof and suitable for public viewing. Site-specific proposals are acceptable for entry.

All participating artists receive awards. Artists benefit from international exposure and recognition by being featured in North America’s most celebrated international peace park. A full color self guided artwork and park history tour brochure accompanies the exhibit. Since 1998, the Peace Arch Park International Sculpture Exhibition has featured over 85 sculptures created by 57 international fine artists.

The United States-Canada Peace Anniversary Association, or USCPAA, in cooperation with Washington State Parks, presents the exhibit. Entry fee $10 (U.S. funds). An online prospectus can be downloaded at www.peacearchpark.org. For a prospectus by regular mail send a SASE to: United States Canada Peace Anniversary Association P.O. Box 4564, Blaine, WA 98231-4564, phone 360/332-7165. Artwork submission deadline is December 30.
