Building permits put on hold in east Blaine
The city of Blaine is halting development at the eastern edge of the city until property owners come up with a way to fix their streets.
“There has to be some cooperation between the property owners and there hasn’t been,” said Blaine community development director Terry Galvin at the November 14 meeting of Blaine City Council. “I’m forced to put a hold on building permits until it is addressed.”
The “view” streets off Jerome Street are all part of a very old subdivision, Galvin explained. “The roads are dirt roads and they’re about 30 feet off,” he said. The roads are still owned by the property owners and need to be brought up to city standards before more houses can be built in the area, Galvin said. “There’s a great deal of development planned out there and we need to deal with this.”
