Talent show features local performers

The 10th annual Community Talent show at Blaine School District’s Performing Arts Center on May 13 showcased local talented dancers, singers, actors, musicians and even a nationally acclaimed teen magician, Sterling Deetz.

Proceeds from the show help to offset some of the costs for Blaine high school students to attend the Close Up Foundation program in Washington, D.C.

U.S. History teacher David Fakkema organized the program and was assisted by former teacher John Liebert. Glenn Tuski worked the lights and M.C. Laura Nelson kept the show running.

A special feature of the annual show is to recognize a person from the community who has contributed greatly to the performing arts.
This year the Bob Robbins Memorial award was presented to Blaine band director Bob Gray, who has taught in the district for 25 years.
The award is named in honor of the former long-time building and maintenance supervisor for Blaine school district. His wife, Jacquie Robbins, made the presentation with John Liebert. The award is sponsored by The Northern Light.
