Boardwalk ribbon cutting June 29
The city of Blaine will celebrate the completion of the first phase of its boardwalk project with a ribbon cutting ceremony at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, June 29 at the newly finished Harborside Plaza on the corner of H Street and Peace Portal Drive.
Sandy Petersen, Blaine assistant director of public works, said the next phase of the project includes the construction of an elevated boardwalk that will connect the H and G street plazas on the west side of Peace Portal drive. That phase is schedule for completion later this month.
The third phase includes the construction of an east-west bridge from one of the plazas over the Burlington Northern Santa Fe railroad tracks. Blaine community development director Terry Galvin, however, said no completion date for that phase has been scheduled because the city is still discussing how it will come up with the additional funds for the project.
The total construction cost is currently $1.5 million, which is about 13 percent higher than the $1.3 million original bid submitted to the city by Ebenal General construction. For more information, contact Galvin at 332-8311.
