Historical building open on Oct. 19
The School of Industries-Department of Public Welfare building is 100 years old this year. Current owner, Horst Bansner, Big Red School House LLC, wishes to celebrate its 100th anniversary by providing an open house that will benefit the restoration of the Whatcom County Historical Society’s 1858 Territorial Courthouse on E Street in Bellingham.
On Thursday, October 19 from 5 to 7 p.m., visitors can tour the four renovated spaces at the corner of I and Astor streets (1303 Astor Street), view historical exhibits on the building and the old town area and then walk or drive over to 1308 E Street to see inside the old courthouse building as well before it is restored.
Refreshments will be provided, and there will be a $10 suggested donation at the door.
