Overpass damaged by ‘large truck’
Washington State Department of Transportation crews will alternatively close right and left southbound lanes of I-5 this week where it passes under Birch Bay-Lynden Road to repair damage apparently caused by a large truck.
DOT spokesperson Dustin Terpening said freeway-sweeping crews noticed a cracked bridge girder in September near milepost 270 and suspect it was caused by the truck’s impact. Crews have examined the bridge and determined that it remains safe.
Drivers can expect lane closures between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m. now through Friday, October 19. Crews may need to return Tuesday, October 21 to finish the work.
