Blaine teen remains in serious condition

A Blaine teenager remains in serious condition this week following a single-car accident October 21.

Family members of Kyle Quist said he remains in serious condition at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle with head trauma, facial fractures, a broken pelvis and five broken lumbars.

Quist, 18, was found unconscious and trapped inside his 1984 Lincoln Town Car in a ditch in the 3500 block of Bay Road in Custer.

According to the State Patrol, rescuers had to cut away the car to free the man before he was transported to St. Joseph Hospital for initial treatment. He was later transferred to the Seattle trauma center for further care.

Quist’s sister, Tia Whittaker, of Blaine, said his friends had set up an account to help with his medical expenses at the Blaine branch of Bank of America. Donations can be made at any Whatcom County branch.

“He’s a strong and very funny young man,” she said. “We’re hoping he’ll be able to kick in his stubbornness and recover.”

Quist is an employee of Shore’s restaurant in Birch Bay.
