Meeting to discuss county impact fees
By Tara Nelson
The Whatcom County planning commission has scheduled a public hearing next week to propose an amendment to the Whatcom County comprehensive plan.
The planned update contains recommended transportation improvement projects and policies to address the growth anticipated in the Birch Bay area over the next 20 years and would establish a policy for the transportation impact fees, credits for availability of alternative transportation, allow for concurrency in unincorporated portions of the urban growth areas, and to adopt a different level of service (LOS) for certain county roads in rural areas that function as primary routes.
The commission is seeking input from Birch Bay commuters, residents, recreational visitors and businesses to help identify and establish priorities for the transportation projects to address needs in the area.
Once the update is adopted, the County will incorporate the Birch Bay transportation system improvements into the county’s impact fee and concurrency management programs as part of the updated plan.
The meeting is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. August 14, at the Whatcom County Council chambers at 311 Grand Avenue in Bellingham.
