Welcome summer month of August 2008, to our Blaine Senior Activity and Community Center. There are those who have longed for you all during the winter months, especially when the rain seemed a little cool and the air a trifle nippy.
August is that marvelous summer month, when summer is to be in full swing, the days are to be warmer and sunnier. Ah, yes, it is always good to enjoy the warmer months with outside activities. All too soon summer vacation time and many outside activities will diminish or abruptly halt.
One of the biggest events for the summer is the Senior Day at Hovander Park in Ferndale. The date this year was August 6. Another great event is the all county senior center Bocce Tournament at Bender Field in Lynden. That is Monday, August 25. Our team is a friendly group who simply enjoy fellowship, mild exercise and enjoying the great outdoors.
The weight-lifting activity is also available in the summer months. Come on in and learn how you can be a part of it. Dolly’s wonderful stretch exercise class continues to meet on Tuesday and Thursday mornings at 9:30. Bible study led by JoAn meets Tuesday mornings at 10:30 right after the stretch exercise. Bocce ball is played at 10:30 on Tuesday and Thursday mornings. Blood pressure checks provided by Blaine firefighters Thursday at 11 a.m. Bridge is played at 1 p.m. on Tuesday and Thursday.
Don’s China painting class continues to meet on Wednesday mornings. This is an enjoyable low-cost class which can open the door to a great new hobby. What an interesting way to take care of Christmas gifts! They are sure to please. The Wednesday 1 p.m. hour brings crafts and tea and a welcoming fellowship time as well as games of Pinochle. Remember to come to the easy yoga class at 3 p.m.
A Friday morning Bible class led by Mary Lou meets at 10:30 a.m. You will be sure to receive a warm welcome in the Tuesday morning Bible class and the Friday morning class.
The all county senior center bocce tournament will be on Monday, August 25. Be sure to mark your calendars for this. There will be carpooling, so let the center know if you need a ride or would be willing and able to provide one.
We can look forward with eager anticipation to the busy schedule which comes with the change of seasons. See you there!
