No alcohol found in fatal crash
No drugs or alcohol were found in the system of a motorist involved in a fatal vehicle-pedestrian accident last May.
Blaine police detective Dan Sartain said toxicology tests performed on Blaine resident Charles Cushman found no evidence of alcohol or drugs in his system following a vehicle-pedestrian accident on May 25 on Peace Portal Drive that killed an 84-year old man and injured his wife.
Cushman, 63, was driving south on Peace Portal about 4:30 p.m. and struck Leif Hesselroth, 84, who later died at St. Joseph Hospital in Bellingham. His 34-year-old wife, Roselle Hesselroth, was also injured.
Blaine police chief Mike Haslip said neither speed nor obstructed vision appeared to be factors in the accident.
