Young at Heart

Hopefully everybody had a refreshing pleasant September and is looking forward to a beautiful Autumn. Our Blaine Senior Center has just had a month of renewal as many classes and activities, after laying dormant during the summer, have restarted.  We have a very exciting October planned at the center.

Tuesdays have the stretch exercise classes with Dolly at 9:30 a.m. This group has steadily increased in number of participants. These exercises are easy and fun, and extremely beneficial to everyone. After the stretch exercises there is an Exploring the Bible class at 10:30 a.m. led by myself.

The painting class meets Tuesdays at 1 p.m. This class has also experienced an exciting giant attendance leap. Increasing numbers of Blaine area citizens are learning how to move a paint-laden brush around to produce beautifully decorated objects and pictures.

While some are happily dapping in paint, other center members are enjoying their Tuesday afternoons playing friendly bridge games in the library. Nine o’clock on Wednesdays brings Don’s china painting class. With a good instructor some beautiful china pieces are being created. The writing class meets at 10 a.m. Wednesday. Under Kay Dee’s direction many interesting stories have emerged from within this gathering. Since everyone has a story, and all are interesting, it is good those stories are put in writing.

Pinochle is played and tea drinkers and crafters meet after lunch at 1 p.m. accompanied with friendly, interesting conversation. Easy Yoga will be at 3 p.m. on October 8 and 22.

Thursdays start with stretch exercise, bocce (weather permitting), and blood pressure checks by Blaine’s friendly firemen. Bridge games begin at 1 p.m. Strength training is from 2 to 4 p.m. The center is open in the evening with Pinochle from 6 to 9 p.m.

Friday mornings brings an Exploring the Bible study with Mary Lou. Come on in and enjoy the atmosphere and people, relax, read a book from the library or play board games. The pool room is open to all members, with the exclusion of Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturday mornings until noon.

Flu shots will be given October 23 at the Blaine Senior Center. They will be starting at 1 p.m. on a first come, first serve, basis. This is an important precaution for the winter months so remember to get this protection.

Are you ready to celebrate a fun Halloween? Come dressed up or down and join in the fun. There will be a prize for the costume voted best. Come join us for a special brunch of crepes, waffles, sausages and scrambled eggs at the Blaine Senior Center.

Every day at the center is a friendly day of fun and fellowship and good nutritious meals. The center needs and appreciates everyone’s support. Please continue to support the center by participating in the nourishing lunches and interesting activities.

The third Saturday of October brings the pancake breakfast, which will be from 8 –11 am. Breakfast includes eggs, sausage, coffee and orange juice for only $5 for adults and $3 for children. This is a really cool, affordable place to eat breakfast, a chance to visit with friends and neighbors and meet newcomers. Families and friends are welcome since the lunches and the pancake breakfast are open to everyone. Another gustatory pleasure are those very delicious made-at-the-center pies. Fresh baked pies are available for $7 and they will be for sale at the breakfast.
