A large Whatcom County manufacturer has moved from their former Bellingham location to a new facility in Blaine.
With more than $5 million in annual sales internationally, Bioplex Nutrition recently expanded their operations to a new 15,600-square foot manufacturing facility at 2252 Odell Road in Blaine and closed the doors on their Axton Road plant in Bellingham.
The company manufactures more than 80 varieties of dairy and egg protein mixes as well as other nutritional supplements.
National sales manager Bill Wicker said what attracted the company here was the friendliness to development by city planning officials and land value, as well as the proximity to Canada and Interstate 5.
however, said he was disappointed about the city’s decision to
redevelop the municipal airport because it could have provided a
convenient way to transport company officials and visitors to the plant.
“It would have been a plus,” he said. “But we still like the location and we like the community. We’ve been treated very fairly during the construction process and getting regulatory approval from the city. They’ve been very cooperative with us and we’re happy to be here.”
The company started in a 2,500-square foot facility in Bellingham in 1999 and has since expanded into international markets such as Canada, Japan, New Zealand and South Korea. Wicker said the company has moved its administrative operations to a location in Ferndale but will be consolidating as soon as the Blaine plant’s office space is completed near the end of May. At that time, Bioplex will host a grand opening party with a barbecue and refreshments. For more information, visit www.bioplexnutrition.com.
