Wonderful, it seems that spring has arrived at last.

Our Blaine Senior Center community welcomes spring, with its planting flowers, and gardens, bright green lawns which are great for bocce ball, trips, and other outdoor activities, and that lovely warm sunshine which is good for the most of us.

There are some exciting things on the center’s agenda for April and May. One of the great events is the spectacular rummage sale. Be sure to mark your calendars for this, it will be on Saturday, April 25 from 9 in the morning to close-up time at 4 in the afternoon.

Feel free to really make a day of it, meeting and greeting, eating a delicious lunch, and finding great buys and also be supporting the Community Senior Center.

Our really great rummage sales depend on generous donations, and provide a way for spring cleaning, turning your excess into valuable treasures while supporting your community and senior activity center.

You may bring those gently used treasures to the center on Monday, April 20 through Thursday, April 23 for 9 am to 3 pm. All electrical items should be in working order. We have limited space, so we can’t handle large appliances or clothing.

Another great event is the Saturday, April 18 pancakes, waffles or biscuits and gravy breakfast from 8 to 11:30 am. The breakfast includes coffee an orange juice and is only $5 for adults and $4 for kids. Come and bring the whole family or all your friends.

Sign up now for the ten week strength training class which begin April 21. Completion of this class is required prior to use of the Cybex strength training equipment. The stated purpose of the weight-training class is a program to help seniors maintain and enhance their independence and quality of life.

You may still be able to get help with that tax paper work. AARP volunteers will be here April 10 and there may be openings available, you must come in to make an appointment and pick up the necessary paper work.

The AARP driving class will meet on Friday, May 15 from 8 to 4 pm. This class could be benefit driving and very well could lower your auto insurance.

There will be a special spring celebration lunch on Thursday, April 9 at noon. Yes, by all means, celebrate spring, it comes after all those icy streets and blowing snows of winter and it does not seem to come often enough.

Birthday lunch will be on Thursday, April 16, at noon. Happy birthday, all you people who arrive in the wonderful month of April.

There are many other activities available at the center. Beginning Tai Chi is on Mondays, pool, stretch exercise, Bible study, painting class, and bridge is on Tuesdays.

China painting, writing class, table games, and pinochle is on Wednesdays. Pool, stretch exercise, blood pressure checks, bridge and pinochle is on Thursdays. Bible study, crafts and tea, and ladies pool is on Fridays and pool on Saturday.

The time is getting near to renew or replace seven of our current board members. The obligation as a board member is only one meeting a month.

What a wonderful opportunity to learn what is required to keep the Blaine senior and community center running and make things happen to keep it interesting.

There also are many other volunteer positions to help keep everything running smoothly such as the monthly pancake breakfast, pie baking, rummage sale, setting tables, dishwashing, to name a few. There is the opportunity for service at the Fourth of July pancake breakfast and burger stand.

Have great month of April and keep on celebrating Spring.
