Ellen Wortendyke turns 100

At a party in the dining room of Good Samaritan Society-Stafholt, Ellen Wortendyke was honored on her 100th birthday. Family, friends, residents and staff all enjoyed the German chocolate cake and the beautiful flowers provided by her family.

Ellen was born in a small town near London, England on April 13, 1909.

At the age of 2, she, her sister and parents came across the Atlantic Ocean and settled in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan, Canada. During the next few years brother Charles and sister Gertrude “Trudy” joined the family.

At the age of 21 Ellen moved to Vancouver, B.C. While in Vancouver she met and married Ralph Wortendyke. She and Ralph then moved to California where Ellen got a job as a waitress. Ralph and Ellen became parents to two children, their daughter Donna and their son Gordy.

The family then moved to Everett and later on to Blaine where Ellen loved to go to the senior center and play cards. Her next move was to Good Samaritan Society-Stafholt where as one nursing assistant put it “she is a treasure” to all the staff.
