Those looking for a fun way to spend a day may want to grab a shovel and a bucket and head to the beach this Saturday.

The Birch Bay Chamber of Commerce has scheduled its annual Sandcastle contest for 9 a.m., Saturday, June 20.
Registration at the visitor information center starts at 9 a.m. and judging will take place from noon to 1 p.m.  Birch Bay Chamber of Commerce president Lisa Guthrie said every child who participates will receive a free snow cone from C-Shop.

Guthrie said that judging process will vary slightly from last year. Instead of offering prizes by age category, they will be awarded on the basis of “most Birch Bay,” funniest, and crowd favorite.

Also on tap, the 30th Annual Discovery Days Family Fun and Arts & Crafts Festival is scheduled for Saturday, July 18 and Sunday, July 19.  Parade is at 11 a.m. Saturday on Birch Bay Drive starting at Alderson Road and heading to Harborview Road.
