Blaine and Birch Bay residents can get a taste of smoky ribs or spicy pulled pork this weekend as The Market at Birch Bay Square hosts its first BBQ On The Border barbecue tasting and cookoff.
The event is scheduled for Saturday and Sunday, July 18 and 19 and sponsored by the Pacific Northwest Barbecue Association.
More than 20 teams are expected to compete for more than $10,000 in prize money and have a stake in the national cookoff later this year. Prize categories include pork butt, brisket, chicken, ribs, dessert and a special challenge which will be announced at the event.
Tasting tickets are $1 each and proceeds will benefit the Whatcom Day Academy. The Market is located at Birch Bay Square, just off I-5 at exit 270. For more information, visit www.themarketsllc.com
