Goal keeper Anna Hewitt, defender Elizabeth Berry, mid Nicole Statham and forward Hope Wilkett, four Blaine girls who will play on the varsity soccer team this fall as freshmen, just helped the Whatcom Football Club (WFC) Rangers win a closely fought tournament at Beaverton, Oregon, last week.

Hewitt arrives to bolster the ranks in goal after the departure of Janelle Gobbato after letting just three shots in for the whole tournament as opposed to the under 15 team scoring 23 on their own. Scores for the four contests leading up to the championship were nil-nil, a 5-1 win, an 11-1 win and a 5-nil win. They took the championship off the team that tied them in the first game 2-1 in temperatures approaching 100 degrees. The WFC Rangers girls under 15 team Gold is coached by Joe Saletto and Rachelle Saletto.

The girls have two more tournaments before turning out for Blaine’s varsity team coached again by Dan Steelquist.
