Those who want an evening of fun while supporting the local arts and music scene in Blaine should check out the Blaine Fine Arts Association’s 13th annual Arts & Jazz benefit auction this weekend.
The event is scheduled from 7 to 11 p.m. Saturday, January 30 at the Blaine high school cafeteria.
Participants in the event will have the option to bid on getaway packages, gourmet dinners, art, and goods and services from local businesses as well as an AKC registered male yellow Labrador retriever donated by Heidi Vandivere Croker of Valley View Kennels. The puppy, valued at $500, will be available to a good home on February 1. As a qualification, the winning bidder must talk to the breeder about the home situation before it can be placed. Auction participants will also have the option of purchasing the puppy and donating the puppy to be trained as a service dog at Brigadoon Service Dogs service.
Admission is $5. Beverages and hors d’oeuvres will be available.
The Blaine high school band will start things off with a set of dance music beginning at 7 p.m. as those in attendance have a chance to survey the auction items. The live auction will begin at 8:15 after the chamber choir performs a set of music.
Among the donated auction items include 30 centerpieces by VanWingerden Garden Center; a summer day of sailing for up to four adults with Kip and Judi Lachner aboard the “Red Head,” an E33 sailboat with lunch provided onboard; a FT325 Fishmaster inflatable boat, life jacket and Pfluger Spinning combo rod donated by West Marine; an authentic Native African Djembe, donated by Hugo Helmer music store in Bellingham; breakfast for two each month for a year at the Seaside Bakery Cafe; and a two-night stay at the Somerbrook Lavender Farm Guest House.
