Blaine City Council member Jason Overstreet, a Republican, has announced his bid for the 42nd Legislative District House of Representatives seat being vacated by Representative Doug Ericksen (R-Ferndale).
Overstreet, 35, is a U.S. Army veteran, professional firefighter of 10 years, and the owner of two small businesses. He was elected to Blaine City Council in 2005 and again in 2007.
He has lived in Whatcom County for 26 years, graduating from Lynden High School, Whatcom Community College and Bellingham Technical College.
He said he is interested in cutting taxes and reducing spending on government programs.
“With unemployment, foreclosures and bankruptcies soaring in Whatcom County and throughout the State; people are demanding positive change to the status quo in Olympia,” Overstreet said. “We are weary of politicians that promise solutions, but then go on to create new programs, raise taxes and increase spending.”
He lives in Blaine with his wife Jessica and has four children: Jake, Savannah, Honor, and Justice.
