A Birch Bay furniture store was destroyed by a fire early Monday morning, April 19.

North Whatcom Fire & Rescue division chief John Swobody said at about midnight, firefighters responded to a call of flames shooting through the roof of Global Wholesales, at 8170 Portal Way, next to Birch Bay Square.

No one was injured in the fire and about three quarters of the building were destroyed, Swobody said. The business sells wooden patio furniture, the majority of which was also destroyed in the fire. The office portion of the structure was not damaged.

The cause of the fire was still unknown and county fire officials are still investigating, he said.
