Blaine high school is one of three Whatcom County high schools to be named by Newsweek Magazine as being in the top 6 percent of schools in the United States.
This is the fourth consecutive year Blaine has made the list and ranks highest in the county at 1,301 out of about 1,600 schools. Blaine ranked 975 during 2009 and in the 700s during 2007 and 2008.
The other two Whatcom County schools – Sehome and Bellingham high schools – ranked 1,329 and 1,347, respectively.
High schools on the list are noted for the level of instructional rigor that their students are held accountable to, as measured by the overall number of students enrolled in advance placement (AP) classes and the number of students taking the AP exam.
