A work party to install new skate park equipment at Blaine's skate park has been canceled because of a manufacturer's delay.
Instead, Blaine planner Alex Wenger said the company – Spohn Ranch, a skateboard equipment manufacturer, of California – will install the new equipment on Monday and Tuesday, July 26 and 27. The park will be closed while the equipment is being installed and will reopen Wednesday, July 28.
Blaine city council approved a $19,000 contract with Spohn Ranch in May. The city budgeted $20,000 for a modular ramp system as part of its 2010 park and cemetery capital improvement plan.
The new equipment includes a series of their TruRide modular steel ramps, a quarter pipe, a centered deck, a ramp system with stairs, grind rail and a bench. The equipment is made from powder-coated, galvanized steel, which is highly resistant to wear from weather and general use.
Wenger added that city staff hopes to add more equipment in the next few years.
