Ragnar Relay begins in Blaine

The 87-mile-overnight Ragnar Relay Northwest Passage starts in Blaine, Friday, July 23 and finishes in Whidbey Island, Saturday, July 24.

The series, presented by NordicTrack, begins at Marine Park in Blaine and takes runners through rural Washington State and finishes on the historic island of Whidbey. It has doubled in participation from 2009.

Founded in 2004, Ragnar races have grown from 200 participants to more than 20,000 in 2009, with 40,000 projected for this year.

This format challenges teams of up to 12 runners on courses between 180 and 200 miles, with 13 different overnight relay races in 2010.
