The city of Blaine is currently accepting applications for a vacant seat on the planning commission. Former commission member Jouko Noso resigned from the position about two months ago.

Blaine City Council is responsible for interviewing anyone who has submitted an application for the position, planning director Michael Jones said, adding that no one has yet to be interviewed for the position.

The approved applicant would serve the remainder of Noso’s term, which ends on December 31 2012, Jones explained.

A full planning commissioner’s term is six years.

The planning commission is a seven-member, nonpartisan committee.

Jones said commission members resigning in the middle of their terms is not uncommon. The length of the term can interfere with commission members’ personal or professional lives, he said.

“It’s not unusual for someone’s life or work commitments to change,” Jones explained.

More information on submitting an application for the commissioner position can be found on the city of Blaine’s website or by calling Jones at 360/332-8311, extension 3317.
