The Blaine school district has
released a preliminary budget overview for the upcoming school year. The
overview includes general figures on how much the district expects to gain and
lose in the 12 months following Sept. 1, 2010.
During the 2010-2011 school year,
the district expects to take in $20.8 million to its general fund while spending
$21.3 million The expenditures figure is higher than the expected revenue
because the expenditures include $412,333 carried over from the 2009-2010
school year. The district estimates the 2010-2011 beginning balance for the
general fund will be $1.9 million.
The general fund pays for most
district operations, which include child instruction, food service,
transportation, maintenance and administration, according to the budget
overview.
The district will make a revised
version of the budget overview available to the public on August 6. Members of
the public are welcome to attend an August 12 budget hearing to voice their concerns
and learn more about the district’s 2010-2011 budget.
The district expects to adopt the
2010-2011 budget at their regular board meeting on August 23.
