U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers arrested a 26-year-old Mount Vernon man at the Peace Arch port of entry November 4 for allegedly attempting to smuggle 987 tablets of ecstasy into the United States.

Alejandro Ochoa-Figueroa, a Mexican citizen and permanent resident of the United States, was entering the U.S. through Canada Thursday evening when a suspicious package was discovered hidden inside a door panel of the 1994 Honda Accord in which he was a passenger.

Officers removed the package and discovered it contained blue tablets which field tested positive as ecstasy.

Ochoa-Figueroa was immediately taken into custody and turned over to agents from U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) for further investigation and prosecution.
