Washington State Patrol will be increasing their DUI patrols throughout Whatcom County during the holiday season as part of their Drive Hammered, Get Nailed.

Their campaign will beef up DUI enforcement from November 25 through January 2.

“In Washington, impaired driving is still the most frequent contributing factor in deadly collisions. During this time of year with holiday parties and celebrations, we urge everyone to plan ahead and choose a safe ride home,” said Lowell Porter, director of the Washington Traffic Safety Commission. The average blood alcohol level of people arrested in Washington for DUI is about .14 – almost twice the legal limit of .08. In 2009 there were 41,006 people charged with DUI in Washington.
