A man was able to escape from would-be kidnappers last weekend by fleeing from their car at a gas station near Birch Bay Square.

The man, whom Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office did not name, called the police at around 8 p.m. on Saturday, November 27, to report that he had been assaulted and kidnapped by two acquaintances of his, said Sgt. Beth Larson of the sheriff’s office.

The alleged assault took place at a home in the 8100 block of Kickerville Road, Larson said. The two suspects reportedly attacked the victim and forced him into their car after an argument about an unpaid debt.

The suspects then drove the victim around for about one hour while discussing plans to kill him and take him to Deception Pass, Larson said.

The victim was able to escape and call police once the car stopped at the Shell Station at the intersection of Birch Bay-Lynden Road and Portal Way.

Both suspects were booked into Whatcom County Jail later that evening. Thomas Roy Brown, 39, was booked on suspicion of kidnapping and felony harassment and assault.

Scott T. Alexander, 50, was also booked on suspicion of kidnapping and felony harassment, in addition to two counts each of possession of a stolen vehicle and possession of marijuana with intent to deliver. Officers discovered the allegedly stolen cars and one pound of marijuana at his home after serving a warrant there.
